Transforming children’s futures ... Empowering families ... Strengthening communities
At Turner Schools, we believe our pupils aren't just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the changemakers of today. From the shores of Folkestone to the heart of Canterbury, our young people are rolling up their sleeves to champion sustainable living and nature-first solutions.
Turner Schools and Change Maker Ellie Beedham have partnered with Folkestone & Hythe District Council to launch Community Green Action Day in July 2026. The initiative will mobilise 3,000 children aged 2–18 to lead sustainability projects across Folkestone, Dover and Canterbury, contributing over 13,000 hours of environmental action. Building on Turner Schools’ annual Community Day, the event will unite schools, families, and local organisations to promote energy efficiency, active travel, biodiversity, and water conservation while encouraging healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.
The Turner Schools Trust has embedded sustainability into its TS30 Strategic Plan, which targets Net Zero by 2030 and supports pupil-led eco projects. Working within communities facing social and economic challenges, the Trust empowers young people to drive real change. Supported by Ellie’s 30-year record in green community projects, the event will run from planning stages in 2025 to a major community celebration on Community Day, Thursday 16 July 2026, showcasing the Trust’s collective commitment to a greener future.
Funding has been given by FHDC for Folkestone schools, however the Trust will subsidise additional cost to include Dover and Canterbury Schools.
Our pupils will be busy with hundreds of hands-on projects designed to restore our local environment and inspire the community:
Restoring Habitats: Planting trees and digging ponds to boost local biodiversity.
Cleaning Our Coast: Organizing mass beach and town clean-ups in Folkestone and Hythe.
Creative Sustainability: Turning recycled materials into inspiring artworks and eco-podcasts.
Green Living: Launching active travel initiatives and crafting eco-care packages.
This massive effort is a true community collaboration. Supported by a green grant from the Folkestone and Hythe District Council, our pupils are working alongside local experts like the Kent Wildlife Trust.
All of this hard work leads to one spectacular celebration, and you’re invited!
Join us for a free community event to showcase the incredible achievements of our Eco Champions. Experience the project through film, live performances, and interactive activities.
