Folkestone students sail the channel in Tall Ships project

News : 15 July 2019

A project promoting cross-Channel collaboration has come to its end with a five-day sea crossing. Two Folkestone Academy students, Sienna and Robert, were on the final voyage, which set sail from Folkestone Harbour Arm on the 7th July. The Pelican ship journeyed from Folkestone over to Boulogne to join in with the Festival of the Sea on the 11th July.

The project encourages students to develop strong links with the French counterparts, as well as building their own confidence and self-esteem. They also developed their ability to work as part of a team and built friendships with students from other schools across the area.

The project takes place every two years and is funded by Folkestone & Hythe District Council, Boulogne Town Council and Getlink Group from Eurotunnel. 45 students took part in the overall project, with a hand-picked group of 28 crewing the ship to Boulogne.

We’ve collected our favourite photos of the Pelican and our fantastic students!
