Folkestone Academy wins secondary school of the year

News : 12 July 2019

Fantastic news from Folkestone Academy which has been recognised for its sporting prowess by winning the Shepway Sports Trust award for Secondary School of the Year. Sports provision is a key part of our offer at the school, and we make sure we offer a wide range of sporting options for our students.

As well as offering ‘traditional’ sports – such as football, rugby and netball, the PE staff at Folkestone Academy have worked to widen their provision, supporting students who want to take up cheerleading, American football and martial arts. This has been great for our students, who have really taken to these sports and won success already.

We also have more than 100 students who operate as young leaders, supporting more than 25 events at primary, district and county level. Three of these students were selected to represent the school at Loughborough University as National Leaders.

Some of our other sporting highlights include:

  • Ran a national netball tournament against other schools across England and came 3rd
  • Eight of rugby players have been picked for Kent
  • Two of our hockey players have been picked for Kent
  • We have the Karate European Champion at Folkestone Academy – Louis Sorge!
  • We won the softball district tournament
  • We won the 2nd Division in the football district league

And much more!
