Folkestone was recently ranked by The Times newspaper in the top 10 coolest places to live in the UK. Home to the Creative Foundation, the town boasts contemporary artworks and there is a major art festival every three years. There is also a well-respected annual literary festival, Folkestone Book Festival.
Cosmopolitan and Industrial Folkestone
Folkestone is home to a number of major International employers including the Royal Gurkha Rifles (2RGR), Eurotunnel, Saga and Holiday Extras making it a great place to work as well as to live. The arrival of the javelin high speed train, HS1, has made Folkestone accessible as never before.
On the south west Kent Coast Folkestone boasts glorious beaches and a view of France on a clear day.
Educational outcomes and social mobility are not as strong in Folkestone as they could be, and for this reason Folkestone is within the Department for Education’s priority area of the south-west Kent Coast.
